DESCO Two Diver Telephone

DESCO began selling diver telephones in the 1940s. Originally they were housed in luggage quality cases. In the mid 1960s the case was changed to wood. The new telephone became popular for its classic look and reliability. Over the years the diver telephone has evolved to meet the needs of a more demanding diving industry. Changes in the electronics industry have also driven changes in the diver telephone. The electronc chip that drives the circuit board had changed over the years and has made it necessary to redesign the circuit board. This happened about five years ago and a board redesign was required. We could not make telephones for almost three years. In that time another issue came up. The loudspeaker that has been installed in all the DESCO telephones since the 1960s was discontinued by the manufacturer. We had to design a new faceplate for the telephone to accept a standard 4 inch speaker.

Currently we are working on replacing the 12 volt lantern battery with a rechargeable sealed Lead acid battery. The wood case is being redesigned to accept the new battery. Contact us about the availability of the new rechargeable system.

The operational features of the telephone have remained the same. Binding posts are provided for an external speaker, and jacks are provided for a headset. There is also a jack for a tape recorder. Separate volume controls for the diver and tender permit adjustment for optimum quality of communication. A set of binding posts is provided for powering the telephone from an external source such as a 12-volt automobile battery. The telephone is housed in a handsome, highly finished, shock resistant wood case.
